93-95+ THE WINEADVOCATE: "Le Carre is from the JCP Maltus portfolio of skillfully crafted Saint-Émilion wines. Neil White is the head winemaker, and Thomas Duclos is a consultant here. The 2018 Le Carre is a blend of 85% Merlot and 15% Cabernet Franc—this vineyard land was purchased from Canon around 2000 and touches Clos Fourtet. Deep purple-black in color, it comes bursting out of the glass with flamboyant black cherry compote, blueberry pie and plum preserves notes with touches of Chinese five spice, underbrush and truffles. Full-bodied, concentrated and framed by firm, ripe, rounded tannins, the exotic spices inject wonderful lift to the long, opulent finish."

93-94 JAMES SUCKLING: "This is really beautiful with a tight and polished palate of compressed, velvety tannins that frame a full body of ripe fruit with an earthy undertone."

90-93 ANTONIO GALLONI: "The 2018 Le Carré is a dark, plush wine. Black cherry, plum, spice, leather, tobacco and menthol give the 2018 much of its virile, imposing personality. It is one of the bigger, lusher wines in the range. Ripeness is pushed to the edge in Le Carré. Personally, I prefer the wines in this range that marry power and naunce, which is not exactly the case here."

93-95 THE WINE CELLAR INSIDER: "Spiced black cherries and espresso form the core of the wine. From there, the wine offers polished, elegant tannins and a creamy, dark cherry and vanilla-tinged finish. The wine is a bend of 85% Merlot with 15% Cabernet Franc."

94-96 JEB DUNNUCK: "Coming from a parcel near Clos Fourtet, the 2018 Le Carré (which means “square” in English) is 80% Merlot and 20% Cabernet Franc brought up 80% new French. Its purple color is followed by a killer bouquet of cassis and blackcurrants balanced by a terrific sense of minerality and salinity. Full-bodied, deep, layered, and pure, it´s the finest vintage to date and is well worth seeking out."
