93-95+ THE WINEADVOCATE: "Very deep purple-black colored, the 2019 Clos de Sarpe charges out of the gate with energetic notes of crushed blackberries, fresh black cherries and wild blueberries, plus hints of garrigue, wild mushrooms, fertile loam, chargrilled meats and woodsmoke. Full-bodied, the decadent black and blue fruits are fantastically offset by refreshing acidity, with a backbone of plush tannins and lingering exotic spice notions coming through on the finish."
90 DECANTER: "Aged in 600l oak casks, reining in the oak impact while maintaining a charred, lightly grilled feel. This is a little lighter than some in the vintage, with clear austerity through the finish and relatively high acidity that remains on the mouthwatering side. Enjoyable."
93-94 JAMES SUCKLING: " This is really tight and linear with compact fruit and polished tannins. Medium to full body and racy, polished tannins. Lots of dark fruit, dark earth and moss."
92-94 ANTONIO GALLONI: "The 2019 Clos de Sarpe, a Saint-Émilion vineyard currently undergoing conversion to organic farming, offers ripe macerated black cherries, cassis and mint on the nose. The palate is slightly honeyed in texture, though this is counterbalanced by the acidity to avoid some of the more high-octane wines of the past. Yes, it is still on the opulent side, but there is a greater sense of control and finesse with commendable detail on the finish. Excellent." - Neal Martin
92-94 ANTONIO GALLONI: "The 2019 Clos de Sarpe is unctuous, deep and heady. Exotic raspberry jam, chocolate, espresso, sweet spice and new leather all saturate the palate. As always, Clos de Sarpe is distinguished by its viscous, rich texture, but these days that signature is less overpowering than it once was. The 2019 is exotic and beguiling from start to finish."
93-95 THE WINE CELLAR INSIDER: "If you want to understand minerality in a wine, this is the one to teach you. Inky in color, the wine tastes of crushed rocks and stone. The range of black and blue fruit paired with licorice and smoke works and keeps on working. Big, powerful and stony, you will need patience with this gem. Give it 15 or more years before pulling a cork. You will be happy you waited. The wine is made from blending 85% Merlot and 15% Cabernet Franc."
95-97 JEB DUNNUCK: "Another beautiful wine in the making from this tiny estate, the 2019 Château Clos De Sarpe reveals a dense purple color as well as a killer bouquet of crème de cassis, black raspberries, classy oak, graphite, tobacco, and violets, picking up a bloody, iron-like character with time in the glass. This full-bodied, concentrated, beautifully balanced 2019 shows the purity and elegance of the vintage, and while it should be accessible in its youth, it´s also going to have 25-30 years of prime drinking."
