JAMES SUCKLING: "Lots of black-olive and blackberry aromas and flavors. Full and linear with intensity and structure. Racy for the vintage. Energy. Class."

THE WINE CELLAR INSIDER: "Deeply colored, the wine is concentrated, long, deep, lush, opulent and rich. Yet, it is equally elegant, long and refined, with a sweetness and freshness to the fruits and soft, polish to the tannins in the ostentations finish. This is the first vintage produced in their new, show-piece cellars. The wine is produced from 100% old vine Merlot. 13.5% ABV. Drink from 2025-2045."

JEB DUNNUCK: "Another undeniable success in the vintage is the 2021 Château Péby Faugères, a richer, medium to full-bodied, pure, elegant Saint-Emilion. Based on 100% Merlot that's still resting in 50% new French oak, it possesses rock-solid mid-palate density, ripe tannins, and a great finish and shows the fresher, more elegant style of the vintage while still bringing impressive depth of fruit as well as length. It's worth noting that this is the first vintage vinified and aged all in their new cellar. Production for the 2021 runs roughly 1,000 cases (70% of the production) and it hit a modest 13% alcohol. It's going to drink nicely for 15-20 years."

FALSTAFF: "Dunkles Rubingranat, opaker Kern, violette Reflexe, breitere Randaufhellung. Zart nach Velours und Nougat, reife schwarze Beerenfrucht, ein Hauch von kandierten Orangenzesten, tabakige Nuancen. Komplex, feine Brombeernoten, etwas Cassis, reife Tannine, schokoladig und anhaftend, gutes Reifepotenzial."

DECANTER: "Super perfumed on the nose, really very floral with a touch of cherry liqueur. Quite high-toned with graphite-laced red and black fruits and some fine, chalky tannins but excellent acidity that's really quite fun and playful. It stops a little abruptly in terms of fruit persistency but there is a nice cooling mintiness, liquorice and crushed stone element that lingers and a good weight overall. Balanced and well presented if not massively structured or persistent but a nice verticality here. Wood a bit on show at the end. Easy drinking style. Michel Rolland consultancy."

THE WINE ADVOCATE: "As appears to be case with ist sibling, Faugères, the limitations imposed by the vintage seem to have somewhat tamed this estate's tendency to push extraction to the limits. Exhibiting rich aromas of blackberries and plums, framed by a lavish application of creamy new oak, the 2021 Péby Faugères is full-bodied, ample and layered, but also impressively seamless and complete despite ist aspirational style. It wouldn't surprise me if it were to age better than more heralded surrounding vintages."
