2022 CHATEAU CHEVAL BLANC Subskription
Es geht los – fasten your seat belts!
CHATEAU CHEVAL BLANC zum Jahrgang 2022: „…A vintage with record temperatures and dry conditions throughout the cycle. We are impressed by the wines capacity to adapt to such extreme conditions, producing a wine with remarkable freshness and balance despite everything…We have never seen average temperatures (Jahresdurchschnitt) of over 15C prior to this. During July and August temperatures reached around 40C on several occasions… The date of the harvest was crucial for the quality of the grapes. We had to be extremely vigilant and reactive in order to avoid over concentration in the grapes…Because of the extreme heat, yields were small.“

JAMES SUCKLING: "Wow. This is really alluring, with multi-dimensional texture and length. Crisp and al-dente. It's medium- to full-bodied with ultra-fine tannins and crunchy, pure fruit. Salt comes through. 60% cabernet franc, 35% merlot and 5% cabernet sauvignon."
Chateau Belair-Monange 2023
Saint Emilion
DECANTER: "A fabulous showing for Bélair this year. Great aromatics, subtle not shouting, not too ripe, definitely more cool and fresh. Smooth and supple, a gorgeous weight and balance in the mouth. Crisp and fresh but creamy and fleshy too. Delicious, minty, racy and chiselled, lots of power but so well balanced, charming and sophisticated. Still lots of mint and tension on the finish with orange, bitter grapefruit, slate and graphite but wow this is amazing. The tannins are perfection, the juicy strawberry, cherry core together with a filling overall weight and texture and long length is excellent. Great stuff and really focussed on drinkability. You could drink this today but equally it will age very well. Fun and friendly, controlled and stylish. Lots of oak but this will settle after ageing (14 months in 50% new oak). 3.82pH."
Chateau Fonbel 2023
Saint Emilion
JAMES SUCKLING: "Very pretty with pure cassis and sliced orange character. Medium body, fine tannins and a polished finish. Balanced and fresh. Some stone and salty undertones. 64% merlot, 28% cabernet sauvignon and 8% carmenere."
Chateau Ausone 2023
Saint Emilion
JAMES SUCKLING: "I don't think I have tasted an Ausone like this. The purity of fruit and fluidity is so primary, like perfectly picked grapes with their juice. Then there is citrus freshness. It's muscular, with toned tannins that caress the palate and give a seamless finish. This really could push the boundaries for the character of Ausone, in the way of finesse with structure. Watch it. 60% cabernet franc and 40% merlot."
Chateau La Couspaude 2023
Saint Emilion
JAMES SUCKLING: "A crunchy and lightly salty red with aromas of dark plums and orange peel. Medium body and firm tannins. Nice fluidity to this."
Chateau Laroze 2023
Saint Emilion
JAMES SUCKLING: "A chunky and structured red with blackberries, black cherries and wood showing now. It’s full-bodied with substantial tannins and a savory finish. This has excellent structure. Better than 2022."

JAMES SUCKLING: "A very fine-grained red with tannins that caress your palate. Medium body. Reserved fruit character. Shows a nicely crafted expression already."
Chateau Cheval Blanc 2023
Saint Emilion
THE WINE ADVOCATE: "One of the most profound wines of the vintage is the 2023 Cheval Blanc, a striking wine that stands out for its strong sense of identity and seamless integration at such an early stage in its life. Wafting from the glass with notes of mulberries, lilac, dark fruits, iris root and violets, it's medium to full-bodied, supple and seamless, with a gourmand core of cool, vibrant fruit that entirely conceals its sweet structuring tannins, concluding with a long, perfumed finish. It's a blend of 52% Merlot, 46% Cabernet Franc and 2% Cabernet Sauvignon, drawing on fully 46 of the blocks that make up Cheval Blanc, and it attained 13.8% alcohol."
Chateau Cheval Blanc - Le Petit Cheval 2023
Saint Emilion
JAMES SUCKLING: "There’s depth of fruit, good structure and freshness in this black-cherry and chocolate-scented wine. It’s full-bodied, yet it tightens up on the finish. Toned, muscular and crisp. 10% of the production of Cheval. 50% merlot and 50% cabernet franc."
